On this Amsterdam true-crime city tour, we will follow real stories that sound almost too cinematic to be true.

The 1940s
A rather average artist became one of the most talked-about people in the Netherlands. In 1947, he was called the second most popular man in the country. He owned 50 properties in Amsterdam. And then he was convicted. What was his crime? You will discover it during the game.

1983
Four childhood friends from one of Amsterdam’s poorest neighbourhoods kidnapped Freddy Heineken, one of the richest people in Europe. The ransom was the largest in European history at the time, and the plan was so carefully designed that the kidnappers seemed to be several steps ahead of the police. Can we follow the clues they left behind?

2002
Two thieves entered the Van Gogh Museum, stole two paintings worth $30 million, and escaped in just 3 minutes and 40 seconds. The paintings were recovered only 14 years later and the story of how they disappeared is almost as unbelievable as the theft itself.

2021
In broad daylight, in the centre of Amsterdam, Emmy Award-winning crime journalist Peter R. de Vries was shot. We will stand at the very place where it happened and look into one of the most tangled investigations connected to his work.

How it works

For each case, you will receive a task: examine the evidence, build your own theories, and look at the story from the point of view of different people involved. You will try on several roles during the game: detectives, judges and even criminals. Step by step, you will compare facts, motives and contradictions, and decide what you think really happened.

Our approach to true crime – this is not just a list of shocking facts. We focus on psychology, context and human choices.

Who were these people? What drove them? Where did the system fail? Why did a crime become possible in this particular place, at this particular moment?

These are stories that stay with you long after the tour is over.

Yes, it’s a game. But the knowledge your gain is very real.

And the joy of a smart adventure you share together. It`s priceless.
